The Origins of Olympic Plaza

 If you think about Calgary’s 1988 winter olympics, certain images may pop into your head. Perhaps you think of the English ski jumper Eddie the Eagle. Or maybe the Jamaican bobsled team comes to mind. The olympics are often remembered for the moments that happen during the event, but today, we thought we would explore an example of the built legacy that olympics and large scale events can leave behind.

In 2016, our team at Intelligent Futures worked on a project that explored ideas with the public on how Olympic Plaza could be refreshed and updated. As with any conversation about city building, it’s important to understand the history of a place in order to understand its future. It was during this process that we spoke to Richard Parker about the history of Olympic Plaza.
